This type was struck for circulation 1976-78 and is a reduced weight version of KM 828 of 1971-74, which was 10.2 g. The SCWC notes that this date was struck at Canberra. King Birendra Bir Bikram (ruled 1971-2001) was murdered by his son in a domestic dispute. The king's brother, Gyanendra, ruled until the monarchy was abolished in 2008. In 2015, an earthquake wrecked the capital, Katmandu.
