Milan 1786-M zecchino Fr-739
This specimen was lot 384 in Künker sale 400 (Berlin, February 2024), where it sold for €4,400 (about US$5,708 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"RÖMISCH-DEUTSCHES REICH, Josef II. 1765-1790. Dukat 1786, M, Mailand. GOLD. Sehr selten in dieser Erhaltung. Sehr attraktives Exemplar, winz. Druckstelle, vorzüglich-Stempelglanz. (Holy Roman Empire, Joseph II, 1765-90, ducat of 1786, Milan mint. Very rare in this quality, very attractive example, extremely fine to uncirculated.)"
This type was struck 1786-88 with an eagle reverse and represents the last ducat struck at Milan. Milan was seized by Napoleon in 1797 and not returned to Austria until 1815.
