Sincona sale 34, lot 4391

This specimen was lot 4391 in Sincona sale 34 (Zürich, October 2016), where it sold for 100 CHF (about US$119 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"HOLY ROMAN EMPIRE - AUSTRIA. Joseph II. 1765-1790 Kronentaler 1787. Mailand. Sehr schön. Alte Tönung. (Holy Roman Empire, Joseph II, 1765-90, crown thaler of 1787, Milan mint. Very fine, old toning.)"

This type was struck for Joseph II 1786-90 and succeeded the scudo of 1781-86 (Dav-1387). It was superseded by a kronenthaler or crocione of Leopold II of 1791-92 (Dav-1389). Austria lost Milan to the French in 1797.
