The first specimen was lot 77614 in Stack's Bowers Collectors Choice Online Auction (Costa Mesa, CA, February 2025), where it sold for $960. The catalog description[1] noted, "MEXICO. Silver 5 Onza, 1998-Mo. Mexican (Potosi) Mint. NGC MS-69." This type was struck in small numbers 1996-2024. The mintage shown here is typical. The second specimen was lot 73259 in Stack's Bowers Collectors Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, October 2025), where it sold for $9,000. The catalog description[2] noted, "MEXICO. 5 Onza (Ounces), 1998-Mo. Mexico (Potosi) Mint. NGC PROOF-69 Ultra Cameo. Tied for finest certified of the date with 8 other examples on the NGC population report with a total of only 35 pieces certified for all grades. Seldom encountered and highly desirable, this very SCARCE low mintage issue garnered a near perfect grade from NGC. Exhibiting hard reflective fields in stark contrast to the frosted cameo devices. Aside from a bit of haze amongst the reverse devices the surfaces are free of tone or fog."
