This specimen was lot 21059 in Stack's Bowers NYINC sale (New York, January 2020), where it sold for $2,040. The catalog description[1] noted, "MEXICO. Mexico -- Mexico. War of Independence. La Comandancia Militar (LCM). 8 Reales, ND. PCGS GOOD-06 Gold Shield; Countermark: VF Details. Issued by La Comandancia Militar. Raised "L.C.M" within rectangular indent countermark on a 1812 Moneda Provisional de Zacatecas 8 Reales (KM-191) of Ferdinand VII. Displaying a bold stamp atop a well-circulated yet incredibly wholesome host, with most of the legends, including the date, king's ordinal, denomination and mint remaining visible. An unlisted countermark/host combination in the Standard Catalog of World Coins and as such, a coin that is sure to pique the interest of the specialist." This counterstamp is reported on various silver coins of the War of Independence dated as late as 1822, after the surrender of the royalists. This particular host coin is unreported in the SCWC.
