Sincona sale 80, lot 3176

This specimen was lot 3176 in Sincona sale 80 (Zürich, October 2022), where it sold for 160 CHF (about US$192 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted, "HOLY ROMAN EMPIRE - AUSTRIA, Franz Joseph I. 1848-1916. 5 Centesimi 1852 V, Venedig. Uncirculated." This type was struck for the kingdom of Lombardy-Venetia in 1852 at Venice and Milan. It is fairly common despite being a one year type. One hundred centesimi made a lira and six lire made a scudo. At the Congress of Vienna, Venice, Milan and Mantua were merged into the kingdom of Lombardy-Venetia and awarded to Austria. Lombardy fell to Sardinia in 1859 and Venetia to Italy in 1866.
