Jean Elsen sale 158, lot 1118

The first specimen was lot 1104 in Jean Elsen sale 158 (Brussels, March 2024), where it sold for €340 (about US$442 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"LIEGE, Principauté, Jean de Hornes, élu confirmé de Liège (1484-1485), AR double patard, s.d. (1485). Différent: croisette. D/ Ecu de Hornes entouré de flammèches, sous des nuées. R/ Croix fleuronnée, un cor en coeur. Rare. Griffes. Belle patine. Très Beau. Provient de la collection Bovier et de la collection Symkens, Liège, 25 novembre 1991. (prince-bishopric of Liège, John of Hoorn, 1485-1505, undated silver double patard, circa 1485, crosslet privy mark. Obverse: the arms of Hoorn surrounded by flames under clouds; reverse: floriate cross, a horn at the center. Nice patina, Very Fine.)"

The second specimen was lot 1118 in Jean Elsen sale 158 (Brussels, March 2024), where it sold for €700 (about US$910 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"LIEGE, Principauté, Jean de Hornes (1485-1505), AR double patard, s.d. (1485), Maastricht (?). Différents: étoile au droit et croisette au revers. D/ IO' D HORN' EP' LEOD' DV BVL' COIT L Ecu de Hornes entouré de flammèches, sous des nuées. R/ + SI DEVS NOBS'CV' QVIS CONTRA NOS Croix fleuronnée, un cor en coeur. Extrêmement rare. Belle patine. Très Beau. Provient de Dupriez, Bruxelles, 15 février 1912, de la collection Bovier et de la collection A. Symkens, Liège, 25 novembre 1991 (avec mention "4 ex. connus"). (prince-bishopric of Liège, John of Hoorn, 1485-1505, undated silver double patard, circa 1485, perhaps Maastricht mint, star privy mark on the obverse and crosslet on the reverse. Obverse: the arms of Hoorn surrounded by flames under clouds; reverse: floriate cross, a horn at the center. Extremely rare, beautiful patina, Very Fine.)"

Specification: silver, the first specimen 3,02 g. the second speimen is 3,06 g.
