Jean Elsen sale 158, lot 1124

This specimen was lot 1124 in Jean Elsen sale 158 (Brussels, March 2024), where it sold for €320 (about US$416 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"LIEGE, Principauté, Jean de Hornes (1485-1505), billon tiers de patard, 1486, Maastricht (?). Différent: étoile au droit et croisette au revers. D/ Deux écussons de Hornes inclinés sous une nuée et des flammèches. R/ Croix ornée, cantonnée de 1-ᴥ-8-6. Chestret 410; Dengis 790; Levinson II-91a. 0,72 g. Très rare. Défaut de flan avec trace de restauration. Patine foncée. presque Très Beau. Provient de la collection Bovier et de la collection A. Symkens, 25 novembre 1991. (prince-bishopric of Liège, John of Hoorn, 1485-1505, billon third patard of 1486, probably Maastricht mint, star privy mark on the obverse and a crosslet on the reverse. Obverse: two tilted shields of Hoorn under a cloud and some flames; reverse: ornate cross cantonned with the digits of the date. Very rare, flan defect and some tooling, nice patina, about Very Fine.)"

This coin was also called a third aidant or a third stuiver. We don't see this denomination anywhere else in the Liègeois series.
