The first specimen was lot 2525 in Jean Elsen sale 160 (Brussels, November 2024), where it sold for €250 (about US$317 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"NEDERLAND, KAMPEN, Stad, AR leeuwendaalder, z.j. (ca. 1597). Op Hollandse voet. Vz/ Ridder rechtsom kijkend met voor zich wapen met klimmende leeuw. Kz/ Klimmende leeuw l. Zeldzaam. Met muntteken tussen twee kruisjes. Licht gereinigd. Krasjes. goede Zeer Fraai. (Netherlands, city of Kampen, undated lion dollar, circa 1597, on the Dutch standard. Obverse: knight facing right with city arms; reverse: lion rampant left. Rare, with mintmark between two crosses, lightly cleaned, scratches, good very fine.)"

Shown is an undated Lion daalder minted around 1597. The obverse features a Knight holding a lion shield, with the reverse depicting a lion rampant holding the arms of Kampen. Legend: CONFIDENS.DNO.NON.MOVETVR, MON ARG R P IMP - CAMP VA HOL. The Estates General spent much of the seventeenth century attempting to suppress the municipal mints, citing their inveterate tendency to issue coins of light weight and bad alloy.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: 27.68 g, 0.750 fine silver, 40 mm diameter, the first specimen 26,91 g.
