Israel JE 5741 1/2 sheqel

This type was struck 1980-84 at Jerusalem and Paris for Israel. This was struck for circulation during the coinage reform of 1980-85. This specimen bears Hebrew date 5741 ("תשמ"א"). In 1982, US$1 = 20.9 sheqalim. In 1985, the coinage was reformed again with one new sheqel = 1,000 old sheqalim. The new denomination is still in use altho inflation grinds relentlessly at its value.

Recorded mintage: 53,272,000.

Specification: 3 g, copper-nickel, 20 mm diameter, reeded edge.
