This type was struck 1980-84 at Jerusalem, Stuttgart and Paris for Israel. This was struck for circulation during the coinage reform of 1980-85. This specimen bears Hebrew date 5741 ("תשמ"א"). Pomegranates are depicted on the reverse. In 1982, US$1 = 20.9 sheqalim. In 1985, the coinage was reformed again with one new sheqel = 1,000 old sheqalim. The new denomination is still in use altho inflation grinds relentlessly at its value.
Recorded mintage: 241,100,000 (123,000,000 from Stuttgart, 2,160,000 from Jerusalem and 90,000,000 from Paris).
