This specimen was lot 73844 in Stack's Bowers Collector's Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, February 2023), where it sold for $100. The catalog description[1] noted, "ISRAEL. 5 Lirot, JE 5724 (1964). Rome Mint. NGC PROOF-64. A pleasing example of this commemorative, this example yields a soft luster and brilliant toning near the peripheral legends. A wholesome and pleasing example that is sure to garner much attention." Rapid inflation destroyed the value of the 1949 series and the coinage was reformed in 1960 to 100 agorot = one lira. This NCLT is one of a series struck 1958-67 in this module. The 1963 Seafaring 5 lirot is the only one that is scarce.

Recorded mintage: 10,967 plus 4,421 proofs.

Specification: 25 g, 0.900 fine silver, 34 mm diameter.

Catalog reference: KM-43.
