SB223-73849r.jpg

This specimen was lot 73849 in Stack's Bowers Collector's Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, February 2023), where it sold for $80. The catalog description[1] noted, "ISRAEL. 10 Agorot, JE 5724 (1964). Tel Aviv Mint. NGC MS-65. A Gem example of the type, this handsome piece yields much alluring appeal and charm." Rapid inflation destroyed the value of the 1949 series and the coinage was reformed in 1960 to 100 agorot = one lira. This type of 1960-77 did circulate.

Recorded mintage: 3,612,000 from Tel Aviv.

Specification: aluminum bronze, 21.5 mm diameter.

Catalog reference: KM-26.
