This specimen was lot 73846 in Stack's Bowers Collector's Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, February 2023), where it sold for $40. The catalog description[1] noted, "ISRAEL. Lira, JE 5723 (1963). Jerusalem Mint. NGC MS-64. A less commonly seen type, this piece yields nice near-Gem quality and is sure to attract many bids." Rapid inflation destroyed the value of the 1949 series and the coinage was reformed in 1960 to 100 agorot = one lira. This type of 1963-67 did circulate.
Recorded mintage: 4,212,000 from Tel Aviv.
Specification: 9 g, copper-nickel, 27.5 mm diameter.
Catalog reference: KM-37.
