CNG Lissner sale, lot 518

This specimen was lot 518 in Classical Numismatic Group's sale of the Lissner Collection (Chicago, August 2014), where it sold for $1,089. The catalog description[1] noted, "IRAN, Pahlavis. Reza Shah. AH 1344-1360/AD 1925-1941. Specimen AR 5 Krans. Dated AH 1306 (AD 1927/8). In NGC encapsulation graded SP 64. Beautiful prooflike surfaces with mottled toning. A spectacular coin." This type was struck SH1306-1308 but is seldom seen. SH = Solar Hegira calendar.

Recorded mintage: 3,000,000 from London (L mintmark) plus 4,711,000 from Heaton (H mintmark) plus an unknown number without mintmark.

Specification: 23.02 g, 0.900 fine silver. This specimen Ø35 mm, 23.03 g, 6h axis.
