Stack's Bowers 2021 ANA sale, lot 45104

This specimen was lot 45104 in Stack's Bowers ANA sale (Costa Mesa, CA, August 2021), where it sold for $240. The catalog description[1] noted, "IRAN. 5 Rial, SH 1311/0 (1932). PCGS MS-63 Gold Shield. An untoned coin with frosty full luster and good strike detail." This silver five rials was introduced 1931-34 and replaced an earlier 5000 dinars (KM 1106). It is not rare but seldom seen in nice condition. For the next issue of this denomination, in 1943 (KM 1145), the weight was reduced to 8 grams. This overdate is not mentioned in the SCWC.

Recorded mintage: 4,527,000.

Specification: 25 g, 0.828 fine silver, 37 mm diameter.
