Iran SH1304 1/4 kran
This specimen was lot 1294 in Sincona sale 85 (Zürich, October 2023), where it sold for 450 CHF (about US$606 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"IRAN, Reza Shah, 1304-1320 SH (1925-1941). 250 Dinars 1304 SH (1925 AD), Tehran Mint. Lion & Sun type. Rayej legend. NGC MS63. Magnificent condition. From the Kian collection, auction SINCONA 49, October 2018, lot 320. Finest certified by NGC."
After Reza Pahlavi overthrew the Qajars and seized the throne for himself, he continued the old denominations for several years, substituting his name and adopting a new dating system. The SH calendar is a solar version of the Hegira calendar which, being lunar based, starts on a different date each year.
