Stack's Bowers 2026 NYINC sale, lot 43186
SB126-43186r.jpg

This specimen was lot 43186 in Stack's Bowers NYINC sale (New York, January 2026), where it sold for $13,200. The catalog description[1] noted, "Incredible Pattern 2000 Dinars in Gold, IRAN. Gold 2000 Dinars Pattern, AH 1319 (1901/2). Tehran Mint. Muzaffar al-Din Shah. NGC AU Details--Removed from Jewelry. Of the highest RARITY, this amazing Pattern in gold offers an even larger change than the normal silver plain edge Pattern, offering a perhaps unique composition in gold. We can find no example of this denomination struck in gold trading, with us being able to only trace a single 500 Dinars specimen in gold which sold in Sincona Auction 85 for 55,000 CHF hammer. Despite evidence of removal from jewelry on the edge and extensive surface damage, the details are bold and show little technical wear. Despite the drawbacks, an example that should attract much attention given its impressive nature and elusivity. From the Genden Collection. Ex: UBS Numismatik (Private Purchase ca. 1990s-2000s)." This sale also contained a pattern 1000 dinars struck in gold. The gold 2000 dinars struck for circulation weighed only 0.57 g.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: this specimen gold, 14.21 g.

Catalog reference: cf. KM-Pn30 (for silver Pattern).
