This specimen was lot 2652 in Stephen Album sale 41 (Santa Rosa, CA, September 2021), where it sold for $192. The catalog description[1] noted, "IRAN: Nasir al-Din Shah, 1848-1896, AR 1000 dinars, Tehran, AH1297, lovely EF." This type is listed for AH 1294-98 and many dates are common. It was roughly equal to a franc. One thousand dinars made a kran and ten kran made a toman. The largest silver coin was the five krans. With the coming of the milled coinage, all of the branch mints were closed and all production was completed in Tehran.
