Sincona sale 88, lot 193

This specimen was lot 193 in Sincona sale 88 (Zürich, May 2024), where it sold for 325 CHF (about US$430 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"IRAN, Qajar Dynasty, Mohammad Shah, 1250-1264 AH (1834-1848). Kran 1262 AH (1846), Tehran Mint. Selten, Vorzüglich, Leicht gereinigt; Rare. Extremely fine. Lightly cleaned. Purchased from S. Album, Santa Rosa, California, in 2000."

This silver denomination was struck at many mints during the reign of Mohammed Shah. The type E style was used AH 1258-1263 at Tehran but nowhere else. It is scarcer than type C or D krans.
