Stack's Bowers February 2023 Collector's Choice sale, lot 73710

This specimen was lot 73710 in Stack's Bowers Collector's Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, February 2023), where it sold for $480. The catalog description[1] noted, "INDIA. 1/4 Rupee, 1910-(C). Calcutta Mint. Edward VII. NGC MS-64. With dot on vine. The SCARCE dot on vine variety, this example is surpassed by only one other on the NGC census and is a key to coinage of Edward VII. Beautifully lustered, with soft toning across the surfaces, this near-Gem is quite commendable and deserved of much attention, given the true RARITY of the type at this grade level." This type was struck 1903-10 at Bombay and Calcutta for Edward VI. All the dates are common altho the proofs and restrikes are rare.
