Stack's Bowers February 2023 Collector's Choice sale, lot 73739
SB223-73739r.jpg

This specimen was lot 73739 in Stack's Bowers Collector's Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, February 2023), where it sold for $336. The catalog description[1] noted, "INDIA. 1/4 Anna, 1911-(C). Calcutta Mint. George V. NGC MS-63 Brown. Delivering much luster and traces of mint red, this wholesome piece is sure to capture much attention." Like the other denominations of 1911, the king's effigy is shown wearing the "pig" elephant, which was revised in 1912. Because of that, despite the large mintage, this is a scarce date, especially in nice condition.

Recorded mintage: 55,916,000, a scarce date.

Specification: 4.72 g, bronze, 25.4 mm diameter.

Catalog reference: KM-511; S&W-8.335; Prid-656.
