This specimen was lot 73707 in Stack's Bowers Collector's Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, February 2023), where it sold for $168. The catalog description[1] noted, "INDIA. 1/4 Rupee, 1903-(C). Calcutta Mint. Edward VII. PCGS MS-64. Delivering a vivid strike and soft color on the delicately lustered flan, this wholesome and pleasing specimen is sure to enjoy a plethora of excited bids." The quarter rupee struck during the Raj was about the size of a dime but contained about 12¢ of silver. All the Edward VII issues were struck at Calcutta except for a few made at Bombay in 1910.
Recorded mintage: 7,060,000 plus proofs and restrikes.
