Stack's Bowers February 2023 Collector's Choice sale, lot 73711

This specimen was lot 73711 in Stack's Bowers Collector's Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, February 2023), where it sold for $42. The catalog description[1] noted, "INDIA. 2 Annas, 1903-(C). Calcutta Mint. Edward VII. PCGS MS-62. Attractive first year issue minor with sharp details and good eye appeal." The two annas was the smallest silver coin struck during the Raj and was equal to 1/8 rupee; it was superseded by a copper-nickel coin in 1918. All the Edward VII issues were struck at Calcutta except for a few made at Bombay in 1909.

Recorded mintage: 4,434,000 plus proofs and restrikes.

Specification: 1.46 g, 0.917 fine silver, 15.7 mm diameter.
