Sincona sale 97, lot 1968

This specimen was lot 1968 in SINCONA Auction 97 (Zürich, May 2025), where it sold for 450 CHF (about US$653 including buyers' fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"RDR / ÖSTERREICH, Die Malkontenten in Siebenbürgen. Aufstand unter Franz Rakoczy, 1703-1711. Gulden 1705 KB, Kremnitz. Sehr schön. (Holy Roman Empire, the Malcontents in Transylvania under Francis Rakoczy, 1703-11, gulden of 1705, Kremnitz mint. Very Fine.)"

This type was struck at Kremnitz 1704-07 and is scarce but not rare. Altho the rebellion failed almost immediately in its objective of expelling the Hapsburgs, it dragged on until Charles VI granted an amnesty in 1711.

Specifications: 14.41 g, 0.875 fine silver, .375 troy oz ASW, this specimen 14.16 g.
