Sincona sale 50, lot 1155

This specimen was lot 1155 in Sincona sale 50 (Zürich, October 2018), where it sold for 6,400 CHF (about US$7,720 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"Ungarn, Die Malkontenten in Siebenbürgen. Aufstand unter Franz Rakoczy, 1703-1711. Dukat 1705 NB, Nagybànya. MONETA•NOVA•AVREA•REG•HVNGA. Unter der Krone gebogenes gespaltenes ungarisches Wappen in Kartusche. Rv. REGINA•PATRONA•HVNGARIAE•1705• Madonna im Strahlenkranz, das Kind in ihrer Rechten. Sehr selten. Etwas gewellt. Fast vorzüglich. (kingdom of Hungary, rebels in Transylvania, Francis Rakoczy, 1703-11, ducat of 1705, Nagybànya mint. Obverse: crowned arms of Hungary in a cartouche; reverse: Madonna and Child in a glory. Very rare, Slightly wavy flan, About extremely fine.)"

The SCWC notes this type for 1704-05. Altho the rebellion failed almost immediately in its objective of expelling the Hapsburgs, it dragged on until Charles VI granted an amnesty in 1711. The rebels also issued ducat at the Kremnitz mint 1704-07.
