Künker sale 335, lot 4721

This specimen was lot 4721 in Künker sale 335 (Osnabrück, Germany, March 2020), where it sold for €160 (about US$209 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"RÖMISCH-DEUTSCHES REICH. Die Malkontenten. Aufstand unter Franz Rakoczy, 1703-1711. Ku.-20 Poltura 1705, unbestimmte Münzstätte. Gekröntes, zweifeldiges Wappen, zu den Seiten die geteilte Jahreszahl 17 - 05//Madonna mit Zepter in der Linken und dem Kind auf dem rechten Arm sitzt v. v. auf Mondsichel, zu den Seiten die geteilte Signatur P - H, oben PRO / LIBERTATE, darunter Wertzahl XX in Kartusche. Vorzüglich. Aus der Sammlung Eberhard Link. Exemplar der Auktion Kurpfälzische Münzhandlung 55, Mannheim 1998, Nr. 353. (Holy Roman Empire, Malcontent Revolt under Francis Rakoczy, 1703-11, copper twenty poltura of 1705, unknown mint. Obverse: crowned arms divide the date; reverse: Madonna and Child enthroned on the crescent moon, denomination in cartouche below. Extremely fine.)"

This was struck by the Malcontents, the first of many rebels against Austrian rule in Hungary. This type was minted 1705-06 and is not expensive. Twenty poltura = 30 krajczar = half forint (gulden).
