Künker sale 335, lot 4718

This specimen was lot 4718 in Künker sale 335 (Osnabrück, Germany, March 2020), where it sold for €30 (about US$39 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"RÖMISCH-DEUTSCHES REICH. Die Malkontenten. Aufstand unter Franz Rakoczy, 1703-1711. Ku.-Poltura 1704, KB, Kremnitz. Gekröntes, zweifeldiges Wappen, zu den Seiten das geteilte Münzzeichen K - B//Madonna mit Zepter in der Rechten und dem Kind auf dem linken Arm sitzt v. v. auf Mondsichel. Sehr schön. Aus der Sammlung Eberhard Link. Exemplar der Auktion Münchner Münzhandlung Karl Kreß 136, München 1966, Nr. 2384. (Holy Roman Empire, Malcontent Revolt under Francis Rakoczy, 1703-11, copper poltura of 1704, Kremnitz mint. Obverse: crowned arms divide the mintmark; reverse: Madonna and Child enthroned on the crescent moon. Very fine.)"

This was struck by the Malcontents, the first of many rebels against Austrian rule in Hungary. This type was minted 1704-07 and is not expensive. One poltura = 1½ krajczar = 1/40 forint (gulden).
