Stack's Bowers September 2024 Collector's Choice sale, lot 75018

This specimen was lot 75018 in Stack's Bowers Collectors Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, September 2024), where it sold for $360. The catalog description[1] noted, "HUNGARY. 10 Poltura, 1706/5. Franz II Rakoczi. NGC MS-64 Brown. Rebellion issue. An excellent example of the type, with eggshell-to-satin surfaces and hints of red color - particularly on the obverse. A choice Mint State coin with few peers." This type, struck 1706-07, also comes with mintmarks 1706-CM and 1706-MM. Altho the rebellion failed almost immediately in its objective of expelling the Hapsburgs, it dragged on until Charles VI granted an amnesty in 1711. Ten poltura = 15 krajczar = ¼ forint (gulden).
