from Jean Elsen sale 132, lot 1018

This specimen was lot 1018 in Jean Elsen sale 132 (Brussels, March 2017), where it did not sell. The catalog description[1] noted,

"ALLEMAGNE, BRUNSWICK-CALENBERG-HANOVRE, Georg III (1760-1807), AR 1/6 Taler, 1804 sur 1803. Mine Saint-André. Fines griffes. Belle patine. Très Beau à Superbe. (Germany, electorate of Hanover, George III (1760-1807), silver sixth thaler, 1804/3, for the St. Andrew mine. Fine scratches, nice patina, very fine to extremely fine.)"

This is among the last issues of the electorate before its annexation by Napoleon in 1807. At the Congress of Vienna, it was restored as the kingdom of Hannover and ruled by the British kings until 1837. It is accompanied by a sixth thaler with a wild man reverse (KM 420) and a twelfth thaler (KM 336), a third thaler (KM 417 and KM 421) and a two-thirds thaler (KM 413).

Recorded mintage: unknown but rather scarce.
