Künker sale 264, lot 3654

This specimen was lot 3654 in Künker sale 264 (Osnabrück, June 2015), where it sold for €2,000 (about US$2,584 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"BRAUNSCHWEIG-CALENBERG-HANNOVER, AB 1692 KURFÜRSTENTUM HANNOVER, Georg III. 1760-1820. Pistole 1803, C. GOLD. Vorzüglich. (Germany, electorate of Hannover, George III, 1760-1820, pistole of 1803, extremely fine.)"

Altho gold five thaler were minted fairly steadily in neighboring Brunswick-Wolfenbuttel (Fr-726), the denomination was minted only sparingly in Hannover until after the Napoleonic Wars. This one year type is rare.
