Hannover 1755-IBH thaler Dav-2092A
This specimen was lot 74551 in Stack's Bowers Collectors Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, September 2023), where it sold for $1,380. The catalog description[1] noted, "GERMANY. Brunswick-Luneburg: Hannover. Taler, 1755-IBH. Zellerfeld Mint. Georg II August (George II of Great Britain). PCGS MS-62. Outside of a small dark spot to the right of the wildman, this example offers great quality and toning, and is an undeniable Mint State survivor. From the Robert C. Knepper Collection. Ex: Schulten (with ticket)." This rather scarce wild man thaler, struck 1743, 1746-50 and 1755, has a more ornate shield than the previous Dav-2092. Other thalers for 1755 include Dav-2089 (St. Andrew) and Dav-2086A (leaping stallion).
Recorded mintage: unknown.
Specification: silver.
