Hannover 1756-IBH thaler Dav-2099
This specimen was lot 1224 in Sincona sale 22 (Zürich, May 2015), where it sold for 500 CHF (about US$628 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"Braunschweig-Lüneburg-Calenberg-Hannover, Herzogtum, Georg II. 1727-1760 Taler 1756. Zellerfeld Ausbeute der Grube Lautenthals Glück. Gutes sehr schön-sehr schön. (Germany, duchy of Brunswick-Luneburg-Calenberg-Hannover, George II, 1727-60, thaler of 1756, Zellerfeld mint, on the Lautenthal's Luck mine, good very fine.)"
This type was issued on four dates 1745-56. It is rather scarce. Hannover, linked to the British crown 1714-1837, embroiled England in several continental conflicts the British establishment would rather have steered clear of.
Recorded mintage: unknown.
Specification: silver, this specimen 29.20 g.
Catalog reference: Dav-2099; KM-293, Welter 2566, Müseler 10.6.3/50.
