Hannover 1754-IAS goldgulden Fr-611
The first specimen was lot 40119 in Ponterio sale 168 (Philadelphia, August 2012), where it sold for $940. The catalog description[1] noted, "GERMANY. Brunswick-Luneburg. Goldgulden (2 Taler), 1754-IAS. NGC EF-40. George II (1727-60)." The second specimen was lot 1870 in Künker sale 352 (Osnabrück, Germany, September 2021), where it sold for €700 (about US$974 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[2] noted,
"BRAUNSCHWEIG UND LÜNEBURG, BRAUNSCHWEIG-CALENBERG-HANNOVER, AB 1692 KURFURSTENTUM HANNOVER, Georg II. 1727-1760. Goldgulden (2 Taler) 1754, Hannover. GOLD. Sehr schön-vorzüglich. (Germany, electorate of Hannover, George II, 1727-60, goldgulden of 1754, Hannover mint. Very fine to extremely fine.)"
This coin is catalogued as a goldgulden or two thaler altho the gold ducat was also struck in Hannover in the 1750's (see KM 238, KM 316, KM 317, KM 318, KM 325). The portrait type is listed for 1749-54 and the shield type is listed for 1751-56. Both received the same Friedberg number. It was accompanied by a half (Fr-612), quarter (Fr-613), two and four goldgulden. The elector George II was also king George II of England.
