Hannover 1756-IBH thaler Dav-2100
The first specimen was lot 5212 in Künker sale 386 (Osnabrück, March 2023), where it sold for €1,900 (about US$2,455 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"BRAUNSCHWEIG-CALENBERG-HANNOVER, AB 1692 KURFÜRSTENTUM HANNOVER, Georg II. 1727-1760. Reichstaler 1756, Zellerfeld. Ausbeute der Grube Güte des Herrn. Die Umschrift auf der Rückseite endet unterhalb des Waldstücks. Feine Patina, vorzüglich. (electorate of Hannover, George II, 1727-60, thaler of 1756, Zellerfeld mint, for the "Goodness of the Lord" mine. The reverse inscription ends below the forest. Fine patina, extremely fine.)"
The second specimen was lot 2451 in Sincona Auction 101 (Zürich, October 2025), where it sold for 1,600 CHF (about US$2,412 including buyers' fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"DEUTSCHLAND Braunschweig-Lüneburg-Calenberg-Hannover, Herzogtum. Georg II. 1727-1760. Taler 1756, Zellerfeld. Ausbeute der Grube Güte des Herrn. Münzmeister Johann Benjamin Hecht. Herrliche Patina. Kleines Graffito im Avers. (Germany, electorate of Hannover, George II, 1727-60, thaler of 1756, Zellerfeld mint, for the Goodness of the Lord mine. NGC UNC Details. Most attractively toned, Small graffito on obverse.)"
The elector had six different thalers struck in 1756: KM 194.2 (leaping stallion reverse), KM 232.1 (St. Andrew reverse), KM 291 (White Swan mine), KM 292 (Cronenburg's Luck mine), KM 293 (Lautenthal's Luck mine) and KM 294 (Goodness of the Lord Mine, shown here). This type was struck 1745, 1749 and 1756. It is not rare but its popularity has made it expensive.
