Hannover 1757-IWS thaler Dav-2086
This specimen was lot 697 in Künker sale 293 (Osnabrück, Germany, July 2017), where it sold for €210 (about US$283 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"BRAUNSCHWEIG-LÜNEBURG, HERZOGTUM Georg II. 1727-1760. Reichstaler 1757, Clausthal. R Hübsche Patina, winz. Graffito im Feld der Vorderseite, sehr schön +. (Germany, duchy of Brunswick-Luneburg, George II, 1727-60, thaler of 1757, Clausthal mint. Scarce, beautiful toning, small graffito in the obverse field, very fine or better.)"
This type was struck 1751-60 and is the last "leaping stallion" thaler from this locale. The Duchy of Brunswick was divided and subdivided in the seventeenth century but was eventually reassembled as the Kingdom of Hannover before being absorbed into Prussia in 1866.
