Hamburg 1755-IHL 32 schilling
This specimen was lot 1527 in Jean Elsen sale 112 (Brussels, March 2012) where it did not sell. The catalog description[1] noted,
"ALLEMAGNE, HAMBOURG, Ville libre, AR 32 Schilling, 1755 IHL, Au titre de François Ier. Droit : Armes de la ville. Revers : Aigle impériale couronnée. Très Beau à Superbe (Germany, city of Hamburg, silver 32 schilling of 1755, in the name of Francis I. Obverse: city arms; reverse: crowned imperial eagle. Very fine to extremely fine.)"
This 32 schilling, listed for 1748-61, traded for two-thirds of a thaler. Altho it is about the size of a mid-nineteenth century vereinsthaler, it is considered too small to be a true thaler and so is excluded from the Davenport listings. Life is cruel.
