Künker sale 263, lot 329

This specimen was lot 329 in Künker sale 263 (Osnabrück, June 2015), where it sold for €190 (about US$246 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"Hamburg, STADT Reichstaler (48 Schilling) 1761, mit Titel von Franz I. Münzmeister Otto Heinrich Knorre. Leicht justiert, winz. Schrötlingsfehler, sehr schön. (Germany, city of Hamburg, thaler of 48 schilling of 1761, in the name of Francis I, mintmaster Otto Heinrich Knorre. Light adjustment marks, hairlines, very fine.)"

This is the first thaler struck by Hamburg since 1748 and tho technically a 48 schilling piece, it was likely readily accepted.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: 29.2 g, 0.888 fine silver.

Catalog reference: Dav-2285, Gaed. 527. KM 417.5.
