This specimen was lot 1913 in Jean Elsen sale 149 (Brussels, December 2021), where it sold for €460 (about US$623 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"NEDERLAND, GRONINGEN EN OMMELANDEN, Provincie, AR florijn van 28 stuiver, 1681. Zonder klop. Vz/ Twee ineengeslagen handen voor twee gekruiste speren waarop Goddelijk Oog en kleine hoed. Kz/ Gekroond proviniciewapen tussen 28-ST. Barstje. Zeer Fraai à Prachtig. (Netherlands, province of Groningen and Ommelanden, silver florin of 28 stuivers of 1681, without counterstamp. Obverse: two clasped hands in front of two crossed spears, the Divine Eye and a small hat abover; reverse: crowned arms of the Generality divides the date. Planchet crack, Very Fine - Extremely Fine.)
Florijnen van 28 stuiver of "achtentwintigs" werden in grote hoeveelheden aangemunt door de Staten van de Verenigde provincies in de jaren 1680 en begin jaren 1690. Het opduiken van veel valse munten en florijnen van lager gehalte ondermijnde het vertrouwen van het publiek. De Staten-Generaal liet hierom de provincies toe alle florijnen te testen. Deze die te licht of van te laag gehalte werden bevonden en de valse moesten uit de circulatie worden genomen, terwijl de goede exemplaren dienden ingestempeld te worden met een stempel die de verantwoordelijke overheid identificeerde. (florins of 28 stuivers were minted in large quantities by the States of the United Provinces in the 1680's and early 1690's. The emergence of many counterfeit coins and debased florins undermined public confidence. The States General therefore allowed the provinces to test all florins. Those found to be too light or of low quality and the false ones were to be withdrawn from circulation, while the good ones had to be stamped with a stamp identifying the responsible authority.)"
