Heritage sale 3064, part of lot 33168
GB H3064-33168d.jpg

This specimen was part of lot 33168 in Heritage sale 3064 (Chicago, April 2018), where it did not sell. The catalog description[1] noted, "Elizabeth II gold 4-Piece PCGS-Certified 'First Strike' Proof Set 2012, 1) 1/4 Sovereign - PR70 Deep Cameo PCGS, KM 1205. 1.67 g; 2) 1/2 Sovereign - PR70 Deep Cameo PCGS, KM 1206. 3.99 g; 3) Sovereign - PR70 Deep Cameo PCGS, KM 1207. 6.67 g; 4) 2 Pound - PR70 Deep Cameo PCGS, KM 1208. 14.63 g; An attractive set of this single-year design type. AGW .951 Oz." The Royal mint interrupted its issue of gold half sovereigns with the Pistrucci reverse (KM 1001.1) for this type featuring a modernistic reverse of St. George spearing the dragon. It must have offended the traditionalists as the old type was resumed in 2013.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: 3.99 g, 0.917 fine gold, 19.3 mm diameter.

Catalog reference: KM-1206.
