Sincona sale 86, lot 1800

This specimen was lot 1800 in Sincona sale 86 (Zürich, October 2023), where it sold for 2,000 CHF (about US$2,693 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"Elizabeth II. 1952-2022. 5 Pounds 2011, Royal Mint Llantrisant. Fourth bust. Hill F99. Selten. Nur 657 Exemplare geprägt, Mit Originaletui und Zertifikat, Rare. Only 657 pieces struck. NGC MS69 DPL. With original box and certificate. No. 44 of maximum 1,000 limited edition presentation sets."

The SCWC lists this type for 2009-2011 but later dates exist. The discrepancy between the mintage reported in the SCWC and the mintage given by the auctioneers may be the difference between the amount struck and the amount sold. Other five pounds for 2011 included KM 1201 (prince Philip's 90th birthday), KM 1202 (Olympic cycling) and KM 1203 (royal wedding).

Recorded mintage: 2,000 per the SCWC, 657 per the auctioneers.

Specification: 39.94 g, 0.917 fine gold, 36 mm diameter. This specimen 39.90 g.
