This specimen was lot 71507 in Stack's Bowers Collector's Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, June 2021), where it sold for $600. The catalog description[1] noted, "GREAT BRITAIN. 25 Pounds, 2011. Llantrisant Mint. PCGS PROOF-69 Deep Cameo. An attractive Proof with hard mirrored fields and frosted cameo devices." In 1987, emulating the krugerrand, the maple leaf, the American gold eagle and other bullion coins, the Royal Mint introduced the Britannia program. Gold one, half, quarter and tenth ounce pieces were coined and marketed. To boost sales, the reverses were changed annually.
