Great Britain 1881 third farthing rev DSLR.jpg

This type was struck sporadically 1866-85 "...for use in Malta, where they corresponded in value to the old Maltese grano; third-farthings were never legal tender in the United Kingdom."[1] Its face value, 1/2880 of a pound, was too low to be useful in Britain proper. It is quite a bit more available than the similar quarter farthing.

Recorded mintage: 144,000.

Specification: bronze.

Catalog reference: S-3960; KM 750.
