This specimen was lot 22725 in Stack's Bowers ANA sale (Las Vegas, August 2020), where it sold for $192. The catalog description[1] noted, "GREAT BRITAIN. Shilling, 1881. London Mint. Victoria. PCGS MS-63 Gold Shield. An attractive Select example of the issue with soft gray tone over the surfaces and no major blemishes that influence the appearance." This type was struck 1879-87 as the final issue of the young head type first struck in 1838. The practice of adding die numbers was abandoned in 1879. This date is common.
