Great Britain 1866 farthing
This specimen was lot 75099 in Stack's Bowers Collectors Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, September 2023), where it sold for $144. The catalog description[1] noted, "GREAT BRITAIN. Farthing, 1866. London Mint. Victoria. PCGS MS-64 Brown. Surfaces are awash with diverse natural color that includes hazel brown, magenta, subtle sapphire, a tinge of viridescence, and bursts of mint red near the rims. Exceedingly eye appealing in every respect, there is sure to be heightened demand for this piece beyond what would be expected for a typical near-Gem." The bronze farthing was struck in moderate numbers 1860-69 and 1872-73 with a toothed border and 1874-95 with minor changes to Britannia.
