Great Britain 1866 6 pence
This specimen was lot 20972 in Heritage sale 3021 (New York, January 2013), where it sold for $1,057.50. The catalog description[1] noted, "Victoria Sixpence 1866, Young Head, Die #4, MS66 PCGS, a splendid coin fully struck from clashed dies, with satiny luster, and rich golden green iridescence, darker on the reverse. From The Kairos Collection." This type was struck in large numbers 1838-66 yet circulated extensively. Few survive in high grade. Die numbers were added 1864-66. Researchers have offered various theories as to why tho it seems likely that mint officials wanted to analyze die life.
