This specimen was lot 37074 in Stack's Bowers NYINC sale (New York, January 2025), where it sold for $720. The catalog description[1] noted, "GREAT BRITAIN. 3 Pence, 1644. Oxford Mint; mm: Lis. Charles I. PCGS AU-50. From the Richard August Collection." While Charles had issued threepence prior to the Civil War, his urgent need for cash led him to open several provisional mints (Oxford being the largest) and issue silver coins in a large variety of types.
