Sincona sale 82, lot 1612

This specimen was lot 1612 in Sincona sale 82 (Zürich, May 2023), where it sold for 3,200 CHF (about US$4,283 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted, "Charles I. 1625-1649. Gold Crown n. d. (1633-1634), Tower Mint under the King. Group D. Class I. Bust 5, with falling lace collar. Mintmark 'portcullis'. NGC MS61. Finest certified by NGC." The crown, worth twenty shillings, was the smallest gold coin struck for Charles before the Civil War.
