This specimen was lot 1670 in Goldberg Sale 146 (Los Angeles, July 2025), where it sold for $30. The catalog description[1] noted, "Great Britain-Gloucestershire. Gilt Halfpenny Token, 1796. Badminton. George III. Bust right. Reverse: Ship. Corn Imported by Government. Sent to PCGS (gilt is counterfeit, plated Outside Mint). Sharpness of Extremely Fine. The Augustana Collection." Badminton is a village in Gloucestershire. The duke of Beaufort's nearby residence, Badminton House, gave its name to the racket sport of badminton, altho the game did not originate there. This token is attributed to Badminton altho the town is not cited thereon. The sailing ship reverse was also used for D&H-31, -32, -35 and -37.
