This specimen was lot 32498 in Stack's Bowers Collector's Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, May 2024), where it sold for $145. The catalog description[1] noted, "GREAT BRITAIN. Trade Tokens. Hampshire. Portsea. Copper 1/2 Penny Token, 1796. NGC AU-58 Brown. Obverse: St. George on horseback slaying dragon; Reverse: Ship above fish. Edge: PAYABLE AT S. SALMON S. COURTNEY & E. FROST PORTSEA. A charming chocolate-brown piece with glossy luster in the fields." Portsea is the island on which the city of Portsmouth is sited.
